Coiled Basketry taught by Nancy McCluskey-Moore
Since ancient times, coils of reeds or rushes have been wrapped with flexible materials and secured together to create baskets for everyday use and ceremonies. In this class, you will learn how to wrap flexible paper coiling with yarn, string, crewel embroidery floss, etc. to create a one-of-a-kind basket. Once you master the technique of starting, building and finishing a coiled basket, you will be able to create anything from a simple bowl shape to a dramatic piece embellished with feathers, beads or findings. Instructor provides 12 yards of paper wrapping coil, blunt needle, some decorative yarns and class handouts. Students should bring in at least one ball of yarn to serve as the primary wrapping color of their basket.
*Please note there will be some “home” work between classes.
There is a $5 supply fee that should be brought the first day of class and paid directly to the instructor.
Registration is required
Registration cancellations will be accepted until Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 12:01 AM
