Leonardo da Vinci, a new film by Ken Burns

will have a special preview at the Desert View Theater on November 7, from 4 to 6 pm.

The documentary airs on

November 18th and 19th on PBS.

The SaddleBrooke Fine Arts Club is hosting this event which if free to attend and is open to SaddleBrooke residents, their families and friends.

The film, which explores the life and work of the 15th century polymath Leonardo da Vinci, is Burns’s first non-American subject. It also marks a significant change in the team’s filmmaking style, which includes using split screens with images, video and sound from different periods to further contextualize Leonardo’s art and scientific explorations.

Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, at a time of skepticism and freethinking, regional war and religious upheaval, LEONARDO da VINCI brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks, primary and secondary accounts of his life, and on-camera interviews with modern scholars, artists, engineers, inventors, and admirers.

Member Spotlight:

Katherine Evans

One of the newest members to SaddleBrooke Fine Arts Guild is Katherine Evans.  Evans and her husband found SaddleBrooke in the way that many do. They were traveling all over, looking for places to consider retiring in. They visited some friends that were already here, came over the ridge on SaddleBrooke Blvd., saw the mountains, and the rest was history! Along with the views, they loved the golf courses, the activities available, and they felt that the people in the community were very welcoming.

Recently retiring in June, and arriving to SaddleBrooke in September 2023, Katherine has already joined a couple of local clubs, one being the “Knit Wits”, a group which knits baby blankets for foster kids. She also discovered the Art Guild, and has enjoyed participating in the Art Salon discussions, and attending the general meetings, as well. She is enjoying retirement, after her long career, and turning over the reigns of her volunteer work with her heart project, serving animals in need.
