Leonardo da Vinci, a new film by Ken Burns

will have a special preview at the Desert View Theater on November 7, from 4 to 6 pm.

The documentary airs on

November 18th and 19th on PBS.

The SaddleBrooke Fine Arts Club is hosting this event which if free to attend and is open to SaddleBrooke residents, their families and friends.

The film, which explores the life and work of the 15th century polymath Leonardo da Vinci, is Burns’s first non-American subject. It also marks a significant change in the team’s filmmaking style, which includes using split screens with images, video and sound from different periods to further contextualize Leonardo’s art and scientific explorations.

Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, at a time of skepticism and freethinking, regional war and religious upheaval, LEONARDO da VINCI brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks, primary and secondary accounts of his life, and on-camera interviews with modern scholars, artists, engineers, inventors, and admirers.

We are photographing artists work for free!

On November 24 we are asking artists that plan to participate in any of our shows (arts & Craft or fine arts) to bring in one or two pieces of their work so we can get good professional images to use in our marketing efforts for the 2025 spring show. Images will be available for our use in the marketing and copies of the images will be available for that artists own use in other ways as they wish. Bring your work to the topaz room at noon on the 24th between 12:00 and 3:00 along with your contact info and if you have a thumb drive that would be helpful.

Saddlebrooke Fine Arts Guild has a library of books on many art topics from beginner to advanced. Plus there is an assortment of DVDs so stop by the topaz room and check out what you can check out!

The class is held over half-day sessions, two weeks apart, to provide time to work on your project prior to the second meeting.
