Impossible Worlds

 March 19, 2025

Let’s start with a question. Is graphic art “fine art?” Yes. A short definition (taken from Wikipedia) states: “A category of fine art, graphic art covers a broad range of visual artistic expression, typically two-dimensional graphics, i.e. produced on a flat surface ….” Join us as we discuss the life and works of the 20th century Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher. Escher produced drawings, lithographs and woodcuts. He also illustrated books, designed carpets, banknotes, stamps and more. He is perhaps most known for his “impossible worlds.” In these, the artist proves to be a master at blending reality and fantasy. The more you look, the more you see. And the more you see, the more you may ask yourself … “How can this be real?”

This presentation on M. C. Escher is sponsored by the SaddleBrooke Art Salon and is free to all SaddleBrooke residents. The event will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2025, 10:30 am in the Topaz Room at SaddleBrooke Two.

Saddlebrooke Fine Arts Guild has a library of books on many art topics from beginner to advanced. Plus there is an assortment of DVDs so stop by the topaz room and check out what you can check out!

In memory of

Robbie Summers

Robbie Summers was one of the founding members of the Saddlebrooke Fine Arts Guild and served as a past president. She loved art and teaching and her art evolved over the years as she explored different ways of creating using watercolor. She was a long-time member of our art guild and is greatly missed by all who knew her.

Norwegian Rosemaling

Taught by Connie Kotke

Try this beautiful folk art by blending oil paints and applying them with small brushes to the top of a small wooden candle holder. This year, we'll try a new style called "Os" (pronounced oose). It features bright colors and fine details in a more geometric pattern than the Telemark style that was taught the last two years. Instructor will walk you through step by step...and you can add a bit of flair on your own.

Supply fee of $20 includes holder, candle and all painting supplies.

February 25th 9:00 - 4:00
