Fabric Self-Portraits (hosted by the Fiber Arts Club)

Thursday October 13 9-4pm

Instructors: Varda Main and CarolAnn Small

Want to do a self-portrait in fabric but don’t sew?  No problem.  First, you’ll choose what kind of self-portrait you want.  Representational?  Caricature?  Whimsical?  Or maybe you don’t want to do a self-portrait but rather a portrait of someone special.  It is so amazing to see the portrait emerging from these pieces of fabric!

Join CarolAnn Small and Varda Main of the Fabric Arts Club as they guide you through how to do this with fabric, iron-on fusible, and surface embellishments.  If you are a painter, you can add paint on fabric too. You’ll learn how to audition fabrics to choose just the right colors, patterns, and textures. Different ways to mount and hang your portrait will be discussed.  Stretched canvas for mounting will be available.

All materials and tools will be provided as part of your class kit.  You will need to bring an 8½” x 11”, black and white, print-out of a photograph of yourself or the person whose portrait you’ll be making.

We will take a lunch break from 12-1
